Background

Septimus Cibo is a diligent young man who came from a modest background, both in regards to his bloodline and the means he grew up in, having grown up with adoptive parents on a Venetian houseboat until he ran away from home and traveled abroad. After being discovered and mentored by Augustine Flamel, a famed descendant of the legendary 15th century alchemist, he was able to enter Clock Tower as a student.

Although he appears to generally be something of a decent magus in his own right, the cause for this is tied to his cursed bloodline. As a descendant of a Knight Templar heretic who fled the purges of King Philip IV with one of the last pieces of the True Cross, he inherited the telltale curse of a man who forcibly implanted himself with divine power.

The main weakness this has imposed on him is that he is unable to refuse requests for charity or aid from faithful Christians or those who are kind-hearted. When he refuses, thorns erupt in a band around his head and splinters emerge from his arm, coalescing into a bark-like skin that begins to spread across his body. It may be dispelled by committing an act of charity even greater than the one asked, generally three times the effort or amount asked or until the one in need is happy.

Sorcery: Purification
Purification is the local permutation of Septimus' blood nature and abilities, a sorcery which exists to dispel curses and the powers of death themselves. Similar to the ability of some Anti-Self Noble Phantasms to exert the user's will and fracture their being, Purification effectively cleaves away part of the user's being and blankets the target in their inner world. In doing so, Cibo suppresses wounds, sorcery, and even a curse of death (or even undeath) temporarily at a strain.

Purification's more direct mode of operation first requires that a temporary link with a single target be established, essentially encasing them in Cibo's accumulated concept. By burning parts of himself away (represented by sacrificing HLs), he is able to permanently negate effects. Regardless of their origins, this effect cannot harm any existence (save for parasitic lifeforms such as demons, and only to protect the host) directly.
